@Wm - Yes, indeed. I can't see any limit to the actual in-real-life stupidity of people in 2020: they will apparently believe anything. Even/ especially when contradicted by personal observation and common sense. This thing is commoner among cleverer people. A piece I wrote in 2009 about 'clever sillies' doesn't get it quite right; but struck a chord sufficiently that it ended up one of the 'most cited' and discussed of my later papers:
