I found a message someone had posted for me. The bottom half of the image was black, and the top half was a dark-yellow sky with the shape of a large opossum silhouetted against it. Written in white Times New Roman letters against the black background was the message: “Remember, Peter was not told that he could be all animals, only that he could be any animal.”
And he chose to be a pig, I thought. And, apparently, an opossum. My dreaming mind connected these: Choosing to live as a pig, when one’s inner nature is quite different, is a form of “playing possum.”
Note added: Here's a quick MS Paint approximation of what the image looked like. The main difference was that the background was more of a naturalistic-looking sky (except for the color) rather than a flat field of color.

At first I was trying to figure out why "Peter" is mentioned with being an animal, thinking, of course, that the Peter referenced is the apostle and his vision of the clean/ unclean animals (including pigs) that he was told to eat. But that Peter was asked to kill and eat them, not become them, so it was a tough fit..
Later in the morning, though, another idea hit me. I was thinking through what it actually means to "play possum". It means to pretend to be dead or asleep. So I thought who or what character could this be related to?
Peter Pettigrew from Harry Potter was the ready answer in my mind, and I think this could make sense, particularly given how much Harry Potter symbolism has factored into things. We also have a clear name connection to the Peter of your dream.
Peter was an animagus, and so chose to be an animal - in his case a rat. Further, he literally played possum, faking his own death as a matter of self-preservation after he betrayed James and Lily Potter, and then living on in his disguise as the Weasleys' pet rat.
The betrayal aspect of Peter Pettigrew's story, including the fact that it was an inside job by a trusted friend, links to other characters, including Cypher from The Matrix.
Playing possum might also fit with recent Pharazon stories, as in Pharazon playing possum much the same way Peter Pettigrew did.
Interesting possibility, though the emphasis on “any animal” vs. “all animals,” and on the pig, remains a mystery.
What do you mean by Pharazon playing possum? The story that has come down to us is that he is still alive to this day, in the Caves of the Forgotten, so if he was trying to fake his own death, he did a pretty bad job of it!
In the dream, while in the spaceport, I ran into an old student of mine named Iris. Then several hours after the dream, my
wife through a slip of the tongue referred to one of my current students, whose name is Doris, as Iris. This was strange, as it’s been about 15 years since I had any students called Iris, so it seemed like a potential sync.
In the Aeneid, Iris is the messenger goddess sent by Juno and rashly trusted by Turnus, leading to his death.
Apparently an Animagus can only become one kind of animal and can’t choose what animal that will be, so that’s inconsistent with the message in the dream.
What was even meant by "all animals"? It could work in multiple ways, regardless of real-world plausibility.
Anyway, my memory dredged up a Hindu story you once noted. A quick search provided a page with a few versions of the tale in more or less detail (and by chance, one of the commenter's names includes "Iris").

In line with the above, I've found a secondary meaning for "playing possum" is feigning ignorance. I suppose we're all rather like pig-Indra in the sense of incarnation.
Yeah, I read up on the Animagus as well - I came to the conclusion that it actually wasn't clearly spelled out, but that choice or one's will did factor in in some way to the animal a person became (if only because the animal reflected that person, and the implied culmination of choices that person had made in their life, but also because other takes implied some underlying will or choice was involved).
On the Any and All, I think this could be a link to the Three Musketeers. As you have called out, their slogan is "All for one, and one for all". I looked up "any" on Etymonline to see what word games we were dealing with. The meaning is "one, a or an, some", with the further clarification that the word is literally "One-y", and comes from the root word meaning "one, unique".
So, in the phrase you have a mention of All Animals and One Animal.... All for one, one for all. Seems like a decent read.
The presence of "Iris" in your dream I think further supports, in my mind, the potential connection with Pharazon. I know you haven't liked my takes in the past relative to Iris, but one guess is that this person is represented by the vampire Thuringwethil, who would be active today, in my story and experience, and interestingly is also known for being a shapeshifter and Tolkien's version of an Animagus. Her animal form was a Bat.
Lastly, back on Peter Pettigrew, he was part of the group called The Marauders. A Marauder is "a rover in quest of booty or plunder". Potentially ties into the piracy theme.
Just woke up from a nap with an interesting dream that I believe ties into this Pig theme and potentially clarifies what that is. Will share in a follow up comment.
In the short dream scene, I was out in the back of my farm. I had come to a large fenced pig area. Usually every summer we raise two pigs, but I took this year off. Here, however, was a whole 'flock' of pigs, and they were all different colors. I focused my eyes on a deep red colored pig. All of the pigs were jumping up in excitement to see me, and I realized they must be out of water. I hadn't topped off their water for quite some time, or so I had the thought, and they were thirsty.
It was at this point, I think, when I realized that these pigs were behaving just like my chickens. Noting the colors of the pigs, I then 'understood' (either then or right when I woke up - hard to tell), that these pigs were in fact my chickens - they just looked like pigs. The red pig that I focused on, for example, was the exact same color as my Rhode Island Red, and the pen and housing they were in was just like my current setup for my chickens in real life.
Realizing I would need to go into the pen to get their water to fill it up, and noting how excited they were to see me and they would step all over my feet (which were barefoot), I sighed to myself and then thought "Well, I guess I need to go get my shoes on so I can go in there and give them some water."
By the way, this is exactly how my real-life chickens behave when they see me coming toward their pasture area. We have an electric mesh fence that they all come running up to when they see me coming, and when I enter their yard, I will trip all over them as they run around my feet. Also, the dream itself turned out to be timely - I had fed the chickens yesterday, but forgot to check their water.
It was (and still is as I think of the dream visual) so strange to see my chickens in the form of pigs.
After I woke up, I thought about this a bit, and think I have an answer. Chickens have been specifically identified or analogized with Israel. In the Book of Mormon, Jesus lamented that Israel were like chicks who he had hoped to gather, yet they would not.
This got me thinking on the connection with Pigs and Israel. Pigs in Jewish culture, per the Peter vision for example, were unclean. But here a symbol of Israel - the Chicken - was in the body of a Pig.
In this story, Israel represents the House of Finwe, who we know were at one point Elves, with different bodies than Men. An Elf viewed the body of a Man as inferior to their own - rightfully so, since they frankly were, and so if not fully "unclean", at least not a very desirable habitation compared with their own bodies.
Continuing with this, "Men" have been loosely associated with the Gentiles of Book of Mormon prophecy, and the notion that Israel would be scattered among them. I have understood this for some time to mean that Israel - or Finwe's House - would be found among Men, and not just among them, but they would be Men, in the sense of having their same bodies.
In other words, the "Pigs" of the various recent symbols are Men, with some of these Pigs actually Israel dressed up or disguised as Pigs, just like my chickens in the dream had the appearance of pigs (though they acted like chickens).
This would seem to also be consistent with that "Everton" reference, which referred to Zion or the Eternal City, in my opinion. The literal meaning of Everton is "Wild Boar Town", and I've imagined a host of Israel, dressed up in their animal bodies of Men, making the trip home to that place.
One initial hot take. I'm sure there are other details to dig into, but you get the general idea.
Based on this, if you aren't super happy with the Peter Pettigrew tie-in, you could always interpret your Animal dream, and your in-dream interpretation/ dialogue, as referring to the Apostle Peter instead and his becoming a Man. That would be consistent with this notion of someone playing possum in the sense you relayed it. They are a "pig" (Man) on the outside, but something entirely different on the inside. And one line of thinking with the story has Peter here as one of these pig-men currently, just like us.
That seems plausible.
If I am honest, though, the presence of Iris in your dream is a little concerning, but maybe there are other explanations.
One of those explanations could be that running into her didn't necessarily mean that you had already gone down the path that Turnus has taken, but to potentially be careful?
I think I already mentioned that I had come across an 'imposter' in 2021 that I believe had influenced my own private writing and thoughts at that time, and have currently associated that entity with Thuringwethil given how other story elements have come together.
William,
A different perspective and a bit of a sync:
A couple of posts ago I linked a clip of Dorothy in the Wizard
of Oz and the scene where she gets struck on the head
by a window which started her transformation and journey
on the yellow brick road.
As I was gathering my thoughts and typing my comment
on that previous post,
I first thought ( as I haven't seen the Wizard of Oz in many many
years ) that it was the pig pen scene which started Dorothy's
'travel's to the other side. However when I found a clip
of the pig pen scene, I realized that it was the tornado/window
scene that started Dorothy's transformation, which makes
sense as the window is symbolic of a portal.
Interestingly in his comment WW mentions Doris.
Doris being a variant of the Greek name Dorothy meaning :
gift of God, or gift of the ocean.
Note in the window scene ( repost link below )
Dorothy actually ' sees' the farmhands ( who were
her friends on the Kansas farm) rowing their 'boat' inside
the eye of the tornado.
In the pig pen scene the farmhand who saved Dorothy
(when she 'fell' in the pig pen) name was Zek. Zek was
the lion in Oz. I thought the name Zek was interesting
and found this possible connection interesting as well:
Copy and paste: asterisks mine
"In the Bible, “Zeke” is often a diminutive form of “Ezekiel,”
which means “God strengthens.”
Ezekiel is a ****major prophet*** in the Old Testament
known for his visions and prophetic messages
during the Babylonian exile."

E. B. White's book Charlotte's Web
has another interesting pig and spider connection.
I believe animals communicate with us telepathically.
Recall my recent comment about the Greek deity
Melampus whom I believe I shared a past life
with. Melampus communicated with the animals,
especially the birds. Cayce believe that we have
an animal communication connection as well.
So do I ....and always have.
Everything is connected.

In the dream, Iris only wanted to talk to me about one thing: the sofas in my fifth-floor classroom, which she said created a bad feeling for the students. I kept trying to get her to explain why, but she just kept repeating her point without explanation. In the dream, I guessed it was some feng-shui concern about the directions the corners of the sofas were pointing. (Chinese people worry a lot about the malign influence of corners pointing at them and sometimes go to great lengths to counter it.) I figured she didn't want to tell me the reason because she knew such concerns seemed silly to Westerners. Finally, she suggested that I solve the problem by rotating the sofas 90 degrees -- that is, by putting the backs on the floor and having the legs stick out in the front. Needless to say, I couldn't imagine such a change would improve the atmosphere of the classroom!
In real life, I have no sofas in any of my classrooms, and the fifth floor is not a classroom but my private chapel, which I always keep locked and inaccessible to students. I do have a small sofa there, which is where I've been carrying out the recent card-under-the-pillow experiments.
No idea what to make of any of that, but I thought I'd record it here since the presence of Iris in the dream has turned out to be potentially significant.
William,
The number Five is the number of change. The Penta.
I don't think it's a coincidence that the fifth floor in real life is your
private chapel and the area of your paranormal 'experiments'.
Sofa could be Sophia, no?
If you haven't already, please do read my recent comment
about my dream in 2003, where my grandmother
Sarah said :"mythical Campbell" and when I
woke from the dream, I assumed she said; 'mystical
Campbell'.
The reason I assumed my grandmother said mystical
was because in my waking mind I had no reference
of the mythologist Joseph Campbell as I had never heard
of Campbell prior to the dream.
That one word changed the entire trajectory
of not only the meaning of the message in the dream
but the big picture of what I now believe
is the foundation of the paranormal
which is : Always expect the unexpected.
All metaphysical experiences are spoken in
code which is symbolism, numerology/gematria
and archetypes. The Universal Language
also known as Cant, the Bird Language aka
the Green Language is spoken in code,
which as a Linguist
I'm sure you know languages more than I,
however I know a thing or two about the Universal
Language.
Regarding the paranormal
and IMHO, we do ourselves a disserve when trying to
make our paranormal experiences fit into our preconceived
assumptions.
Like gold, our dreams via our soul wants us to dig for the truth.
My opinion of course.

I also forgot to address your point on Pharazon and playing possum. The example I was specifically thinking of came from Leo, if I remember right. So, you wouldn't be aware of it.
In 2021, whatever Being was in Leo's head spun a story that apparently involved Pharazon and his band of merry men being offered something like a chance to go into some kind of sleep or similar state while they waited in their caves.
I think this is one of the reasons he didn't like or buy into the story of Pharazon - in his mind, that isn't possible because he is in that sleep state.
I haven't interacted with Leo for quite some time, but you could always reach out to him and get the details. I don't remember much beyond that, as I only had a high-level summary he told me at one point (and there is a chance I am not remembering right).
Anyway, I personally don't buy the story from whoever was communicating that, and so in my mind would fit within "Playing Possum"... someone trying to create a story that Pharazon is asleep, when he is actually not.
The question would be why would someone want to create that kind of misdirection?
