This morning (January 20), the preschool asked if I could read to the kids a story of my choice. Since (as mentioned in "The water is blue, and the birds are awake") I recently bought a set of mint-condition used Dr. Seuss books, I chose one of those: I Can Read with My Eyes Shut! (1978). That book has come up here before and even lent its name to a post or two (e.g. last September's "Reading with my eyes shut"), but I hadn't thought of it in connection with the specs until this morning, when I opened it up to the first page and found this:
Although my focus was on red-and-blue specs, Nicolas Cage in that National Treasure still actually has three lens colors: red on the left side of image (Cage's right), blue on the right, and green ("pickle color") slightly down and to the right of the blue -- corresponding broadly with the relative location of the colored words in the Seuss book.
The illustration shows the Cat wearing glasses of only one color -- but he's not just wearing them; he's holding them in front of his eyes with his hands, with some of the fingers of his left hand raised, very much like Nicolas Cage in the movie still.
The very next page in the Seuss book shows the Cat wearing glasses with differently colored lenses -- not red and blue, but still a significant sync in context.
On both pages, the emphasis is on how the Cat's specs give him the ability to read in various ways. That is also the function of the "ocular device" in National Treasure:
The Ocular Device was found with the Masonic Square and compass in a brick at Independence Hall by Ben Gates. The glasses were built by Benjamin Franklin to read the map from the back of the Declaration of Independence. It leads the group to New York.
"The glasses were built . . . to read." The square and compass reference also got my attention. From the beginning, I associated the red-and-blue specs with the "interpreter" spectacles used by Joseph Smith, which he later dubbed the Urim and Thummim. In "Fire and ice, first syncs, 1491, and the Urim and Thummim," I linked back to a 2013 post of mine associating the Urim and Thummim with the Mormon version of the Masonic square and compass.
This connection would be reinforced 11 years later, when I read Don Bradley's (highly recommended) book The Lost 116 Pages. Bradley writes:
The interpreters, as described by [Joseph's mother] Lucy Mack Smith in earlier chapters, were translation "keys" of triangular shape -- "three cornered diamonds." And we have learned from Joseph's father that these interpreters lay on the top plates of the book, which was engraved with symbols, minimally including compass and square.Over this place with the compass and square symbols were laid the two transparent triangles described by Joseph's mother -- the interpreters. The placement of the triangular interpreters over the depictions of compass and square is fitting -- perhaps literally -- and suggests another layer to the compass and square symbolism of the relics. Triangular interpreters could potentially be placed over the compass and square engravings so as to align perfectly with them, one interpreter aligned with the compass, the other with the square.
Bradley includes this illustration of what the interpreters may have looked like:
From the orientation Bradley chose for the square and compass in this illustration, it is obvious that he, too, was thinking of the Mormon temple garment, with a compass in V orientation on the left breast and a square in L orientation on the right. My 2013 post, "Lux et Veritas: A hypothesis," proposed that the L and V stand for that phrase, which is a Latin translation of Urim and Thummim.
(Note: In Hebrew, Urim begins with aleph, the first letter of the alphabet; and Thummim begins with tav, the last. Since Hebrew is read from right to left, this is consistent with Urim being the right lens and Thummim the left.)
Bradley also proposes that the specs (which Lucy Mack Smith's description suggests were hinged) could have been folded up, creating a hexagram:
My recent post connected the red and blue lenses not only with the Urim and Thummim but with "fire and ice." In alchemical symbolism, a triangle with its point up (like Bradley's "square" lens for the right eye) symbolizes Fire, and a triangle with its point down (like the "compass" lens for the left eye) represents Water -- an element which, in the Aristotelian analysis (see "Suits as elemental qualities rather than elements"), is primarily Cold and only secondarily Wet. The hexagram is widely understood to be a combination of the Fire and Water triangles.
When I opened the Don Bradley book to get those images and that quote, I found something else that I'd forgotten about:
Depending on the orientation of the lenses, the use of the interpreters could also evoke the symbol of the all-seeing eye. With an equilateral-triangle lens oriented with its base at the bottom during the interpreters' use, the user's eye would be framed in a triangle in precisely the way the symbol of the all-seeing eye is most often depicted.
That got my attention because it reminded me of one of the books I am currently reading, Real Magic by Dean Radin. This is what the cover looks like:
It's an eye. The left half (on our right) is blue, the color associated with water. The right half is yellow -- not red, but still a "fiery" color -- and is inside a Fire triangle, forming the symbol of the all-seeing eye. There even appears to be a subtle nod to the Masonic square and compass: Only one letter of the title is inside the triangle, and that letter is G.
This post began with a reference to two movies, one of which was National Treasure. This is the logo for the National Treasure franchise:
The other movie mentioned was The Ides of March. Maybe this is a bit too clever, but I think I see a nod to that title on Radin's cover, too. The subtitle consists of three lines of text, each of which is bisected by the line separating the all-seeing eye from the human eye. Looking at the right half of the text, the first line begins with M; the second, with IDE; and the third, with OF. Is it too much of a stretch to say that suggests "M[arch], Ide[s] of"?

William,
Recall my recent comment
about my perspective
regarding the Merkabah and the Square and Compass.
The Merkabah(Star of David ) is the chariot, Ezekiel's Wheel,
, i.e. the Vehicle.
In the Ides of March Vehicle video, the guitarist
Sergey Kashirin's shoe has
a 'pickle green' Nike swoosh on the side of
his blue shoe.
Blue-Green.
Speaking of Nicolas Cage,
Copy and paste :
"The Nicholas Cage Film, Knowing, and Christianity
The film "Knowing" is a significant work that explores
the themes of prophecy, fate, and the afterlife,
drawing parallels to biblical texts and the Book of Ezekiel.
The movie features a drawing that resembles
Ezekiel's "chariot vision," which is a central
element of the film's plot."

I watched the Read Aloud video of I Can See
With my Eyes Shut on YouTube and interestingly
at the very end of the story, the reference to ONE EYE.
The narration:
"That's why I tell you to keep your eyes wide, keep them
wide open, at least on ONE side."
The ocular (One Eye) shape is also in the
2009 movie Knowing. ( see link )
Fire ( male phallus point up on the Star of David)
and Water ( female vulva point down on the Star of David
and forms the cup)
both when interconnected ( the Alchemical Wedding)
produces the creation.
The colors red (fire) and blue(water) when
mixed/intercourse produces purple.

William,
And speaking of purple, I just looked again at
the photo of Nick Cage you posted with his red and blue glasses.
Lo and behold it appears, at least to me,
that his pinky signet ring is some sort
of Purple gemstone.
Donald Trump wore a purple tie at
his Inauguration and at Davos
2 days after.
The signet ring represents status, power and wealth
which is why King Charles always wears one.

Referring to Green as "Pickle color" could be funny. A pickle in baseball is when a runner is caught in the middle between two bases, much like the Ruler on the garment (associated with Theodore and the color Green) and Derek Smalls sits in between Fire and Ice.
I've been thinking a bit more on the Thummim problem, and I have a potential solution - one that I think works well, and as some measure of verification, Spinal Tap seems to agree with my interpretation. I'll walk through my reasoning and then the answer.
First, "Thu", the name for Sauron, is obviously something that could be read into that word, so you would read it like Thu-mim. Thus means "horrible darkness" in one definition, and you have this opposition play out then between Light (the Square) and Compass, which despite its explanation in the temple, does in fact represent something being bound or contained within a circle or sphere. Hold onto that thought about darkness, because I ultimately moved on to another way of looking at the word, but I think ultimately can tie to this.
However, Ur-im was read that way, and I preferred a cleaner read on this that had Thummim read the same way to keep consistency on the -im endings. So, we would need to look at it as Thum-im to keep consistent with Ur-im. The difficulty lies in that there is not really anything like "Thum" in Elvish, which left me at a dead end.
I started thinking, however, about mutations in the dialect of Elvish, and I think a path opens up here, particularly since "Th" is one of the more famous ones. In Tolkien's stories, there were Quenya words that started with Th, but were ultimately changed to be spoken like an S... Th > S was the change (a voiceless Th, like saying Thin, was changed to an S sound), and this was a huge point for Feanor when it developed, because he felt it was disrespectful to his mother specifically, whose name was changed by the shift in pronunciation.
So, based on this, I viewed "Sum" as an appropriate potential mutation to look into. The only thing here, though, was something like a "hollow cavity". Pharazon was buried in one of those, so maybe, but it still wasn't convincing. Looking more into mutations, it was also apparently true that the "Dh" sound was a mutation of the Th/ S sound, and that this was also written down often as just D. So, now Dum was a possibility given this. And this was close to the final answer, but not quite. I got words meaning "secret, hidden" and "excavation" as one would expect because Dum is related/ synonymous with Thum/ Sum.
In looking at the potential words, however, I noticed a place called "Nan Dumgorthin" on the list and saw its definition was "Land of the Dark Idols". In looking at the components of the word, it was clear that Dum was translated as "Dark".
And this then brings in the final mutation to get to the potential answer. In the case of Nan Dumgorthin, the component "Dum" was modified from the based "Dun". That word should look pretty familiar to you based on how it has come up before, including in your poem about a "Tail/ Tale" being "Dun", and in other places. Dun can mean "Dark, Black", etc. So, basically, I think we can trace Thummim back to Dun-im based on the mutation chain of Dun > Dum > Thum as it is captured in the word. Therefore, Thummim if translated as Elvish would be something like the Black King or Dark King, roughly.
And, again, this fits with the notion of opposites we have seen in these symbols - Light and the Sun King on the one side, and Dark and Dark King (and in scripture the Moon was set to Rule the Night, so could be considered a King of the Dark a well?)
So, I think that is the answer for Thummim, or the best guess I can put out there at the moment. I mentioned Spinal Tap, so will mention that in a separate comment along with a dream this morning involving the "Quick and the Dead", which ties into this as well, I think.
So, Thummim has something to do with Dark/ Darkness (going also back to Thu, as I mentioned at the earlier part of the last comment). This is where Spinal Tap comes in to support. My assumptions is that David St. Hubbins aligns with Ur-Im, and Nigel Tufnel links to Thum-Im.
Nigel, very conveniently, can mean "Dark/ Darkness/ Black" from the Latin word Nigellus (and which Niger and that word you have used in the past from the Arnold/ Reality temple meme comes from), so a direct link to Thum-im as meaning Dark/ Black. As mentioned before, the actor Christopher Guest who plays Nigel also has some important symbolism here both in name and other roles.
In these meanings, Urim and Thummim are set up as opposing forces, just like with Hot and Cold, Fire and Ice, etc. We have Light and Dark. This then takes me to my dream from this morning, which will be a follow up comment because it will get too long.
It was a short scene set in the movie "The Quick and the Dead". It was just a short shot of Gene Hackman, who is the main antagonist in the movie, along with the title of the movie (which helped me understand what I was looking at). I have seen the movie before a few years back, before I had started blogging some thoughts, so I never wrote a post about it, i don't believe, and I needed to look up some details later on.
Anyway, in waking up, I interpreted the Quick and Dead references as being opposites, just as in how we have discussed Hot and Cold. The movie itself involves old western duels and gunfights, so the meaning of the title has to do with can you pull your gun faster than the other guy - if not, you are Dead. However, knowing nothing about the movie, and using KJV english to interpret Quick, you have a phrase that literally means The Living and the Dead, and this seemed to me to link to the Urim and Thummim game here.
In re-looking up the movie, this was further reinforced by its characters and actors, using them as symbols. We have Russel Crowe show up again as the protagonist, and I have specifically used him in other settings (A Beautiful Mind, Gladiator, etc.) to link directly to the Swift Messenger (i.e., Quick) who is linked to Ur-Im. He plays the role of a man named Cort, which just took a few seconds to see as a homonym for Court, meaning the place or the means by which Judgment is given (Swift Messenger gets that moniker from Joseph Smith's GAEL where he is given authority to judge).
We have also seen Gene Hackman before, most specifically in Superman as Lex Luthor, Superman's opposition, and got a lot of mileage from that in writing on that. I was curious about the actor's last name this time (which I may have noticed before - I can't remember). Hackman means "wood cutter". Could go a few ways, but in keeping with the story, seemed most relevant to Pharazon, the most infamous wood cutter around after he chopped down Nimloth, the White Tree.
Also of interest, is that Hackman's character is named Herod, a name most people know from the Biblical king who both spoke with the Wise Men and also tried to kill Jesus by slaughtering young children based on the information he learned from them. The name Herod itself means "Exalted One; Hero", but thanks to the story is today used as the opposite of that... meaning one who exalts themselves but is actually a tyrant. Some Pharazonic overtones.
The slaughtering of the children stood out to me in that biblical story, and I think ties this even further to Pharazon. In looking more into Herod, he was known for a couple things (probably more): i) building the Second Temple in Jerusalem, which Jesus prophecied would be completely destroyed, and ii) slaughtering an entire population of young children.
The mapping to Pharazon's story, as told, is pretty spot on. Pharazon built the large temple (i.e., Great Tower) on Numenor, which was used to worship the Darkness and Melkor, burn chopped-down Nimloth, etc., and which was ultimately destroyed by the wave, and in his assault on Eressea he committed atrocities which, per Daymon's story, specifically involved young children being hunted down and murdered.
So I think potentially something here connecting this dream of "The Quick and the Dead" to the rest of the symbolism explored around Urim and Thummim, Face/Off, etc.
Building on this, I think we then have symbolism between Hot and Cold, Red and Blue that leads us to "Choice" - the ultimate and defining choice between Light and Dark that the Book of Mormon spends some time on.
It is interesting that you pulled out a Matrix sync before diving back into Urim and Thummim. The spectacles and their color of Red and Blue map directly to the Red and Blue pills that Morpheus offers Neo. Here is the scene... Red on the left (in Morpheus' right hand), and Blue on the right (the left hand).
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ky7ksownEEE
In Morpheus' description to Neo, he even touches on this notion of Light and Dark, Truth vs. Falseness. If one takes the Red pill, they are offered Truth, Light, etc. The Blue leads to remaining in ignorance and blindness.
I've mentioned my belief that ultimately the LDS endowment is likely Satanic - with Satanic elements embedded in the symbols and their interpretation. The Blue / Compass may be one such symbol. Participants are told that the compass reminds them that Truth can be "circumscribed" into a great whole. It is a loaded word, that means "restrained, bound, set limits for, confine", etc. Really? I don't believe that, actually. Further, the compass is suggested to lead one in an "undeviating course to eternal life". But, of course, this kind of compass draws nothing but circles - no straight path.
As a result, I think the compass, how it is explained in the endowment ceremony at least, has been usurped to be Satanic: Truth is bound and restrained on that side.
And, like Neo, there may come a time where we have to choose - where both are right in front of our eyes, and the choice really matters. Morpheus explains to Neo that at that point there is no turning back... in other words, the choice has eternal consequences that can't be undone.
This then echoes Lehi's words to his children relating to this Choice between Light and Dark, or Life and Death (from 2 Nephi 2, which leads into the important passage of 2 Nephi 3 and Seers):
"And they are free to choose liberty and eternal life, through the great Mediator of all men, or to choose captivity and death, according to the captivity and power of the devil; for he seeketh that all men might be miserable like unto himself."
Importantly in that same chapter, Lehi speaks of the importance of "opposition in all things"... without which there is no Choice. Red vs. Blue.
Tying this Choice further to the symbolism of Morpheus' words to Neo in that scene, earlier in the Book of Mormon in Nephi's encounter with first the Holy Ghost and then the Angel, the Angel explains that the Choice that Men will be left with will be "Eternal", and as part of the great and marvelous work done in the Last Days:
"For the time cometh, saith the Lamb of God, that I will work a great and a marvelous work among the children of men; a work which shall be everlasting, either on the one hand or on the other—either to the convincing of them unto peace and life eternal, or unto the deliverance of them to the hardness of their hearts and the blindness of their minds unto their being brought down into captivity, and also into destruction, both temporally and spiritually, according to the captivity of the devil, of which I have spoken."
The work will be everlasting, as in no turning back. It is also interesting that the Angel says that the work will be "on the one hand or on the other"... exactly like Morpheus holding the Red and Blue pills on the one hand or on the other.
If Blue is chosen, then we remain blind, and in the case of Neo and the Matrix, Neo would have remained in the Matrix. This is where the Satanic interpretation of the Compass would come full circle, so to speak, and tie to the meaning of Matrix.
Per Etymonline, Matrix originally meant "Womb". Jesus taught that we must be born again - and being born means leaving the womb. In this case, I might go with the womb we need to leave as belonging to the Mother of Harlots - Ungoliant herself. Interestingly, Matrix also means, again per Etymonline, "that which encloses..." Much like the Compass is said to circumscribe, enclose, or limit Truth.
Ending with more Matrix symbolism, Neo is shown after taking the Red Pill as indeed being born, pushing through the membrane of fluid - essentially the amniotic sac of a baby - that his physical body has been in his entire known life.

And... I will let it rest there.
William,
I googled Dean Radin and noted his birthdate Feb 29.
Him and I ( Feb 19 ) are both first decan Pisces.
Check out the decans. You are a 3rd decan Pisces.
Check out the article ( link below )
There are actually many articles about the decans
in the zodiac. I just chose this particular article
to link because it is dated Feb 19.
Copy and paste:
"Third Decan Pisces (March 11–March 20): The Mystic Philosopher
Ruled by Pluto
We have the third decan Pisces—the mystics,
the philosophers, the ones who make you question
everything you thought you knew.
These Pisces are ruled by Pluto, which means
they’re intense, transformative, and deeply spiritual.
The Good Stuff: You’re a seeker of truth,
and you’re not afraid to dive into the deep end
to find it. You have this incredible ability to see
the bigger picture, which makes you a natural philosopher
and guide. You’re also fiercely loyal and protective
of the people you love."

Does this sound like you???
My first decan sounds exactly like me.
I've researched the decans before.
There quite on point, at least for me.
