On the marriage of true Minds

No altars did we build in dimmest youth,
But worshiped God in spirit and in truth.
But God adapts himself to mortal minds
And altars when he altaration finds.
Then, as we grow in wisdom and improve,
He bends with the remover to remove.
And thus, through time and change, his mercies are
To old and young an ever-fixèd star.

Love is not Love, nor worthy of the name
That seeing change can stay itself the same.
