Sympathy and dice

I noticed that the songs featured in my last two posts -- "Gimme Sympathy" by Metric in "Rolling the bones" and "You Don't Know How It Feels" by Tom Petty in "Tom Petty death sync" -- have a lot in common. For starters, sympathy literally means knowing how it feels to be someone else. There's also a strange correspondence between the two music videos. In the comments on the Tom Petty post, Debbie brought up syncs related to the name Lola. My first association with that name is the Kinks song about a transvestite who "walks like a lady and talks like a man." The Tom Petty music video has a part where an actress lip-syncs to Tom's vocals, giving the effect of a lady with the voice of a man. The Metric music video has the converse, with male band members lip-syncing as we hear the voice of Emily Haines. Here are the two videos for reference:

Tom Petty, the famous rock star, is singing about how we don't know how it feels to "be" him. The Metric song also references the idea that the listeners could "be" famous rock stars:

Gimme sympathy
After all of this is gone
Who'd you rather be?
The Beatles or The Rolling Stones?

My post about the Metric song was called "Rolling the bones" -- because the line "I feel it in my bones" had triggered a dream about rolling dice and being able to feel them on the table. Bones as slang for "dice" presumably comes from the origin of dice as astragali -- the talus bones of sheep and goats. These ancient dice had four faces, with the non-consecutive values 1, 3, 4, and 6. The dice in my dream also had non-consecutive values: 1, 2, 3, 5, 7, and 11.

Here's how Wikipedia defines astragali:

The talus (/ˈteɪləs/; Latin for ankle or ankle bone; pl.: tali), talus bone, astragalus (/əˈstræɡələs/), or ankle bone is one of the group of foot bones known as the tarsus. The tarsus forms the lower part of the ankle joint.

Note that these bones form "part of the ankle joint." Here's the chorus from the Tom Petty song:

So let's get to the point, let's roll another joint
And let's head on down the road
There's somewhere I gotta go
And you don't know how it feels
You don't know how it feels to be me

Just as "I feel it in my bones" in the Metric song obviously had no intended reference to dice, the "joint" Tom wants to "roll" is clearly a marijuana cigarette, not an astragalus -- but we all know the sync fairies aren't sticklers for original intent. The "get to the point" line is interesting, too. In my 2019 post "The linear ranking of dice rolls" -- to which I linked in the post about the Metric song, and which discusses ancient astragalomancy in some detail -- I take issue with a translation of a medieval sermon, insisting that a particular word means "points" rather than "rolls":

Bernardino is comparing the missal to a single die (taxillum), and puncta obviously refers to the points on the die rather than to the number of possible throws of two dice. (Each face of a die is marked with a different number of points, from one to six, and 1 + 2 + 3 + 4 + 5 + 6 = 21). So, not only does Bernardino not list specific mappings from rolls to letters, but it seems unlikely to me that he had possible rolls of the dice in mind at all.

My interest in the linear ranking of dice rolls had to do with systems for mapping Tarot cards to rolls of the dice. There are 21 possible rolls of two dice and 56 possible rolls of three dice (or five astragali) -- corresponding to the Trumps Major and the Minor Arcana, respectively. (The Fool is a Major Arcanum but not a Trump.) Thus, "let's roll another joint" -- i.e., let's throw in one more die -- could be an injunction to consult the Minor rather than the Major Arcana.

If we take Tom's joint-rolling as dice-throwing, the fact that it is followed by heading on down the road suggests these lines of Dylan that have been a motto of mine for so long:

The highway is for gamblers, better use your sense
Take what you have gathered from coincidence

The reference to rolling a joint, and this joint corresponding to the ankle/ foot bones brought me back to that dream where a whole bunch of deer were eating my pumpkins. In that dream, there was a deer that was hobbling on one leg, using a crutch or cane for balance, due to an injury to its foot. I had assumed the deer had been shot in the foot and that was the source of the injury (since I had been shooting the deer to protect my pumpkins), but rolling an ankle would have produced the same gait and need for a crutch.

I hadn't shot that deer as it hobbled off my field. One assumption was because i was out of ammunition, and another was because I felt sympathy or pity for it given its condition.

I had tied that particular deer specifically to Pharazon.

Continuing on with the thought, the deer/ Pharazon would have rolled his joint heading down a road attempting to get to a point.

 William,
Part 1 0f 2
Absolutely fascinating!
Good job connecting the dots!!

You know William, and IMHO
 your connections of the dots
for this post is something I've been saying
for a very long time .

Recall I recently commented that it appears
to me, you seem to have many dreams
and syncs ( which of course
the ones that you share )
where females are offering to tell you
or show you something.

 Just replace woman/female with intuition
and seeing beyond the illusion and recall
my many comments about what I believe
regarding you being at a doorway
of a transformation.

I believe that your female water energy
may be asking you to trust your  intuition to go
through the doorway,
as opposed to being hooked
by the logical/male mind.

At the beginning of the Gimme Sympathy video,
Emily Haines is sitting down putting
on her black gloves. There is a rose on her
lap.

At the end of the video, children appear.
The intercourse  of the male and female
produces the creation which is the vesica piscis
and The Star of David. I think that is why
the children,.The children
being symbolic of the creation and
result of the intercourse of male/female
which as one can also be seen as
being androgenous
which I believe is also the 'clue' in Perry's video
and the Kinks's song Lola.

I did a bit of google search on the band Metric
(as I've never heard of them before)
and Emily Haines' name caught my eye because
if you recall I emailed you personally about my personal
connection to Haynes which I was responding to your
post about Hayes and the ether.

Also in recent syncs was The Wizard of Oz which
of course Auntie Em is the strong matriarch.

Also in the video when the male band member is singing
in Emily's voice he is wearing a felt hat similar
to Tom Petty's hat.

The lyrics to Gimme Sympathy makes
my case as well, I think.

Case in point:
The lyrics :'get hot, get too close to the flame',
sounds like the Phoenix to me. The fire is necessary
to get close to as to melt the ice,
which cold and ice have been in the sync
stream as of late and  in the lyrics of the Beatles'
song : Here Comes the Sun which of course
is referenced and
repeated in the chorus of Gimme Sympathy.
copy and paste: ( see link )

Little darling
I feel that ice is slowly melting
Little darling
It seems like years since it's been clear

Also in the Gimme Sympathy lyrics:
'Don't go, stay with the all-unknown
Stay away from the hooks, all the chances we took.'

Stay with the all-unknown? I absolutely agree with that.
The All unknown is the vast spectrum of ideologies
that there is to explore, many roads and
many open books  which, 'wild open space,
and talk like an open book' is also mentioned in the lyrics.

I believe the 'hooks' are the illusion which bounds us
to this duality dimension.

IMO, in Petty's song the sentiment is the same.
Petty offers to take someone on a moonlight ride
which of course the moon is female energy.

There is also mention of cold, which I believe
the symbolism being : we become cold
when we restrict ourselves from exploring and expanding.
There is no growth, no new roads .
We're encased. Like a butterfly in a cocoon..

Copy and paste :
'People come, people go
Some grow young, some grow cold

I woke up in between
A memory and a dream'

William
Part 2
In the Petty video there is the feeling of motion
as if he's on a train OR that he IS a train on a track.
The harmonica ( wind instrument ) sounds
like the whistle of a train.

As Petty moves on down the road (or track )
the background constantly changes. At one point
the background is red and yellow which are the Oscar
Maritime Signal Flag colors for Man Overboard.

I believe Man Overboard is symbolic of Human's Fall
to earth and being separated from source ( God ),
 which I've commented
on many times on your blog.

Which may explain why the female (Eve/Lilith/Lola?)
is scantily clad, which scantily clad seducing
females have also been in the sync stream of late.

Petty also passes a circus, which a circus
is the domain of the fool/trickster/clown.
It's also the illusion.

There is a spinning woman wearing red at the circus.
. Red symbolic of blood and being in our physical incarnation.
When in physical body, we all 'spin' on the Wheel of Time.

Recall my many comments about the Ferris Wheel.
The Ferris Wheel's origination was at Expositions, Fairs,
and Carnivals. The same locations where illusions are 'spun'.

Check out the 1969's song by the group Blood,
Sweat and Tears titled : Spinning Wheel.
( see link )

Note that the ending of the song Spinning Wheel
sounds very much  like the listener is at a circus,
fair or carnival.
I don't think that's a coincidence, do you?

When we are in this illusion duality dimension
we endure blood, sweat and tears( sorrows
and sympathy ).

Petty passes the silhouette target which
is interesting as there are two silhouettes.
One is shot and the other isn't.
Perhaps symbolic of every ending has
a beginning.

Up next is the bank. The bank is where we store
materialistic value. It's also the institution that keeps us in
perpetual servitude called debt, which debt 'screws' us,
which in the video is what is happening on the second
floor of the bank. The number 2 being symbolic.
Adam First 1 , Eve 2 second.

Next  another scantly clad female appears
( perhaps the same female as before as this female too
comes from the red and yellow background).
She sings with Petty's male voice.
There is also a long blonde haired 'Eve' in the background
at frame 3:05.

I think the scantly clad female who 'takes control'
is symbolic of Lilith or perhaps Lola as sung by
the Kinks in the 1970 song Lola.
Both Lola in the Kink's song and Lilith in
the Bible are 'strong' female energy.

And because everything is dual nature
in this dimension including humans,
humans need BOTH
female ( water) and male ( fire ) energy.

Too much fire, we burn, too much water,
we drown.
Everything is about balance.

Petty nudges "Lilith/Lola' aside and they sing as one,
two-lips (tulips )
perhaps symbolic of the intercourse ( i.e. the marriage of
the Red King and White Queen in Alchemy ).
 Symbolic not sexual.

Petty finally reaches his destination which is back to Eden
symbolized by the flowers.

You wrote :  "sync fairies aren't sticklers for original intent.
The highway is for gamblers, better use your sense
Take what you have gathered from coincidence "

My response: True Dat

William,
I forgot to add that in the Gimme Sympathy video
Emily Haines wears a 'shining' black and gold
color dress. Gold/yellow and black being
the bee's color.

Also the children run out of the door and into the light,
wearing wings.

Bill, you may remember that back in 2020 or thereabouts, I rolled my ankle when, unwittingly playing Humpty Dumpty, I" had a great fall" from the top of a brick wall. Despite the injury, I had no choice but to "head on down the road," limping all the way home.

I went back to your Lola comments based on your reference here.

My only association with the name Lola also comes from a dog. My sister-in-law and her family had a Golden Retriever named Lola. I wasn't going to even bring it up here, but then the breed caught my attention. A golden retriever can refer to a Golden being who retrieves something/ someone, or someone who retrieves golden things, or both. Pharazon's name literally means "Golden", so you have a few ways to work that in here, including the meaning of Pharazon being retrieved.

Lola is a name that means "Sorrow", which in turn can mean "Sickness, to be sick". Jesus was known as the "man of sorrows", and Alma teaches that he took upon him the sickness of his people so that he might deliver them:

"And he shall go forth, suffering pains and afflictions and temptations of every kind; and this that the word might be fulfilled which saith he will take upon him the pains and the sicknesses of his people.

And he will take upon him death, that he may loose the bands of death which bind his people; and he will take upon him their infirmities, that his bowels may be filled with mercy, according to the flesh, that he may know according to the flesh how to succor his people according to their infirmities.

Now the Spirit knoweth all things; nevertheless the Son of God suffereth according to the flesh that he might take upon him the sins of his people, that he might blot out their transgressions according to the power of his deliverance; and now behold, this is the testimony which is in me."

This brings in the sympathy theme, and the answer to Tom Petty's lyrics about no one knowing what it was like to be him. Alma's words suggest the Jesus became sick himself so that he could have sympathy with his people, understand how it feels to be them, and thus know how to deliver them.

That whole theme, of God becoming just as sick as his people, and not just pretend sick, was one of the reasons I didn't have a problem with my earlier Pharazon story. The Numenoreans had been sick for a long time before Pharazon came on the scene, and he was born into that sickness.

Back to Lola the dog in real life ... interestingly (and sadly), Lola herself became really sick at the end of her life. She lost all of her hair and her skin was covered in scabs (it was really ugly), and this lasted for a bit before they finally put her down. The fact that her sickness involved her becoming bald and having really bad skin (skinbad?) felt potentially symbolically relevant.
