Fee-fi-fo-fum!I smell the blood of an Englishman;Be he alive or be he dead,I'll grind his bones to make my bread.
In other words, the giant intends to use Jack's bones to make flour, making Jack a "Flour Boy" in the most literal possible sense.
One often runs into the variant "I'll have his bones to grind my bread," making Jack's bones the pestle rather than the flour. That makes a lot less sense, but I wanted to do my due diligence and make sure that the Flour Boy version was the original. I tracked down the earliest recorded version of the tale, in the 1734 edition of Round About Our Coal-Fire, and found the giant's chant on p. 45.
So yes, "I'll grind his bones to make my bread" is the original. But check out how the paragraph immediately previous begins:
And now no sooner was the Fly let out of its Cage . . .
Talk about a crazy sync! I hadn't the faintest notion that any version of Jack and the Beanstalk involved flies being let out of cages, but just yesterday I posted about catching and releasing flies in "Tinbad and Jinbad revisited." Note in particular this comment:
I began thinking up other ways of making a boring couplet saying that Tinbad the Tailor did tailor stuff. The first possibility to come to mind (better a near-rhyme than a repeated syllable) was:
Tinbad the Tailor took it inBut had to let it out again.
I was thinking only in terms with of tailoring — Tinbad took in a garment when its owner lost weight but had to let it out again when the weight was regained — but I soon realized it could also be read in terms of catching flies. Tinbad traps flies but, unlike Jinbad, doesn’t keep them.
Not only did I write about releasing an imprisoned fly, I even used the very same language -- "let out" -- as the 1734 tale. I guess I'm going to have to read the whole thing and see what other surprises it has for me.

Jack's bones being ground into flour, and thus being a flour boy, is pretty good.
As further evidence of some kind of symbolic connection between Jack's story and the Numenorean one, I remembered that I had tied the story of Jack and the Beanstalk to Numenor way back on my very first blog, "A Good Seed". I went back to the archives to see what I had said about it. It looks like at the time I took it for an inverted or corrupted Numenor story:
"I was reading Jack and the Beanstalk to my kids before bed the other night, and realized I was reading almost an inverted Fall of Numenor/ Ki-Abroam's Magic Axe tale. In Jack's story he uses his axe to sever the link between the sky and earth as the giant is coming after him, sending the giant falling down to his doom. Ki-Abroam also uses his axe (or I guess Eru uses Ki-Abroam's axe...) to sever the link between 'heaven' and earth as the Numenoreans invade Eressea and Aman, sending the Numenoreans falling under to their doom."
Right now the top of your blog-watch sidebar has Junior Ganymede linking to a post on your BoM blog. Quite relevant.
Relevant indeed. Here’s the link:

The reason G is checking my blogs at the moment is that I alerted him that we were making saints of Keebler elves.
William,

"Let's start at the very beginning
A very good place to start
When you read, you begin with A-B-C
When you sing, you begin with DO-RE-MI
DO-RE-MI
DO-RE-MI
The first three notes just happen to be DO-RE-MI
DO-RE-MI
DO-RE-MI-FA-SO-LA-TI
Oh, let me see if I can make it easier
DO - A deer, a female deer
RE - A drop of golden sun
MI - A name I call myself
FA - A long, long way to run
SO - A needle pulling thread
LA - A note to follow SO
TI - A drink with jam and bread
That will bring us back to DO, oh, oh, oh
DO - A deer, a female deer
RE - A drop of golden sun
MI - A name I call myself
FA - A long, long way to run
SO - A needle pulling thread

DO-RE-MI-FA-SO-LA-TI-DO, so DO
Now children, DO-RE-MI-FA-SO and so on
Are only the tools to build a song
Once you have these notes in your heads
You can sing a million different tunes by mixing them up
Like this
SO-DO-LA-FA-MI-DO-RE
Can you do that?
SO-DO-LA-FA-MI-DO-RE
SO-DO-LA-TI-DO-RE-DO
SO-DO-LA-TI-DO-RE-DO
Now put it all together
SO-DO-LA-FA-MI-DO-RE
SO-DO-LA-TI-DO-RE-DO
Good
But it doesn't mean anything
So we put in words, one word for every note
When you know the notes to sing
You can sing most anything
Together
When you know the notes to sing
You can sing most anything
DO - A deer, a female deer
RE - A drop of golden sun
MI - A name I call myself
FA - A long, long way to run
SO - A needle pulling thread
LA - A note to follow SO
TI - A drink with jam and bread
That will bring us back to DO
DO-RE-MI-FA-SO-LA-TI-DO
DO-TI-LA-SO-FA-MI-RE-DO
DO-MI-MI, MI-SO-SO, RE-FA-FA, LA-TI-TI
DO-MI-MI, MI-SO-SO, RE-FA-FA, LA-TI-TI
When you know the notes to sing
You can sing most anything
DO - A deer, a female deer
RE - A drop of golden sun
MI - A name I call myself
FA - A long, long way to run
SO - A needle pulling thread
LA - A note to follow SO
TI - A drink with jam and bread
That will bring us back to
SO-DO-LA-FA-MI-DO-RE
SO-DO-LA-FA-TI-LA-SO-FA-MI-RE
DI-DO
So DO

"The way this illustration goes is as follows:
There is a**** gate in Jerusalem** called the
“eye of the needle”****,
through which a camel could not pass unless
it stooped down and had all its baggage first removed.
After dark, when the main gates were closed,
travelers and merchants would have
to use this smaller gate.
LA... a note to follow so,
Perhaps meaning making a mental note to
always follow our soul
which is where we find balance and truth.
TI----( tea)a drink with jam and bread
( recall I shared my 2003 dream I titled Tweed?
Tweed, who was following me in a cave,
was holding a TEA Cup and saucer.
Keep in mind the cup is the chalice symbolic
of the female's womb.
..... and of course everything takes us back to Doe

I suppose it must have been too obvious to investigate before, but I looked up the name "Keebler" just based on William's reference again in the comment above. Keebler can be based on Kiebler, which is a German name meaning "Cooper", or someone who makes barrels, tubs, vats, etc (it can also be from "Kubler" which is something like a farm or property owner). The reference to a Tub obviously caught my attention, given the rub-a-dub-dub link.
We have also seen the name Cooper prominently before in the symbolism around the Black Hole in movie Interstellar (the protagonist's name was Joseph Cooper), and Black Hole came up just recently again as a possible connection to the Gris Notch, or Grey Passage.
In Interstellar, the finding and travel of such a passage created the means where many more individuals were able to leave earth for a safer place, which is a concept that is pretty central to my story. This idea also continues to tie in with Beings being released from a prison (i.e., this Earth under current management). Mormons should be more familiar with that view than they are, at least those who have gone through the temple, because prison terms have been used to describe Men leaving the Telestial Kingdom, or this Earth. For example, being able to pass by angels who stand as 'sentinels".
I've explored one possibility that these sentinels are not 'good' in the sense of wanting to help, but rather of assisting to keep Men (us) in this place or prison, and currently we have no Key or Grand Words that allow us to bypass them.
Continuing the tangent, the specific use of Sentinels to describe these Beings also then takes me to The Matrix, which also incorporated Sentinels, as Flying Octopus machine-things. In fact, the Octopus symbolism merges very clearly with Spider symbolism, in my opinion, given the multiple eyes on the machines that are much more Spider than Octopus.

UPDATE:
As I'm typing this, Lo and Behold
a buck ( 8 point ) has joined the Deer!!!

Part 2
Isn't Eikþyrnir or Eikthyrnir a stag which stands
upon Valhalla in Norse mythology?
In the Sound of Music,
the character Maria, played by Julie Andrews,
sings this to the children:
"Now children, DO-RE-MI-FA-SO and so on
Are only the tools to build a song
***Once you have these notes in your heads
You can sing a million different tunes
by mixing them up"***
Mixing up notes could mean: using and connecting
the million notes (puzzle pieces )
in our head and seeing
from a different perspective in order
to sing a Different tune.
To sing a different tune is a big picture
and connects with my previous post
about Fonzi being a'rebel'.
In the movie Sound of Music the protagonist
Maria Rainer ( played Julie Andrews) is
a nun however she is also
is 'free-spirit ( see wiki Sound of Music)
And last but not least--- note the children's
clothing is Green and white.
Also note that there are 7 children and Maria.
7+ 1 equals?
Isn't it interesting how everything is connected?
Thanks for giving me several more puzzle pieces;-))
