Red crows, white feathers, Whitley and owls, a man falling from the sky, and water as blood
Other errands having taken me to that part of Taichung, I stopped by a used bookstore. I didn't buy anything, but three books caught my synchromystic eye. First, this edition of the Meditations of Marcus Aurelius:
This book actually came up back in September 2022, in "I'm being shadowed by a red turtle dove," when I searched my Kindle library for Tomberg's Meditations on the Tarot and got this:
That's the same edition of Marcus. At the time, I was just interested in the fact that there was a red bird on the cover -- synching with the red turtle dove of my post title -- though I noted, "Not a dove (it looks more like a red crow), but still!" and linked back to my December 2020 post "Red crows of the Sun." That symbolism has come back up recently; I mention the Red Crow of the Sun in both "I will follow you into the dark" (June 19) and "October 3 and 4, and white crows" (June 20). In both cases, the red crow was mentioned in conjunction with white birds (a white owl and a white crow, respectively), and the Marcus book shows a red crow and a white semiplume feather -- that is, a small fluffy feather rather than a long flight feather. Stories from the Messengers includes a story about such a feather:
Audrey leaned over the edge of the deck holding a small fluffy feather. She looked down at me and said, "An owl feather just floated down and landed right between all of us!"
This occurred in full daylight, an odd time for an owl to be in flight, and no one saw any bird above them. They described watching the little feather drifting down from high above, floating in from the direction of the lake. . . .
I got a few close up pictures of the little feather. It was white fluffy down and about two inches long. I showed these photos to a few bird experts while researching this essay. They all said the same thing -- they couldn't be sure, but they thought it was from a turkey.
Two inches is awfully long for down, even from a large bird like an owl or a turkey, so I think it must actually have been a white semiplume, as seen on the cover of the Marcus book.
Back in January 2024, I posted "White feathers, strange sights," the post taking its name from a song on Australian singer Whitley's 2007 debut album The Submarine. The last line in the song is "A white feather fell." The album cover features a picture of an owl and the name Whitley. Ditto for the cover of Stories from the Messengers.
Apparently (according to German Wikipedia) the singer chose his stage name as an homage to American blues singer Chris Whitley, with no reference to Whitley Strieber.
Coming back to today's bookstore visit, the second book to catch my eye was this one:
It's a Nigerian short story collection titled What It Means When a Man Falls from the Sky. Just yesterday I posted "The Tree of Life and the flesh and blood of Jesus" on my Book of Mormon blog, a more Book-centered discussion of ideas first broached here in "The white blood of Jesus" (June 18). In yesterday's post, I discuss Nephi's High Mountain Vision, in which the Spirit says to him:
thou shalt also behold a man descending out of heaven, and him shall ye witness; and after ye have witnessed him ye shall bear record that it is the Son of God (1 Ne. 11:7)
In other words, the Spirit tells him that he will see a man descend ("fall") from the sky and then tells him what it means. In the post, I note that, despite what the Spirit says, Nephi doesn't actually report seeing a man descending out of heaven and discuss a possible way of reconciling the discrepancy.
Both that post and its June 18 predecessor discuss the idea that the "water" that flowed from the wounded Christ's side, and the "living waters" he talks about, represent a second sort of "blood" that flowed in Jesus' veins. In yesterday's post, I connect this to the strange modern Mormon practice of drinking not wine, nor even grape juice, but water in remembrance of the blood of Jesus. All of which brings us to the third book that caught my eye today:
It's a novel titled Water from My Heart -- in other words, water as a type of, or substitute for, blood.
William, But isn't water just symbolic of the female? Water being void of color ( white) and red blood symbolism ,once again connects to the Rebis ( male/female, black/white/ sun/moon, Yin/Yang ).
Also you wrote this quote : "If you wish to *** upset the law*** that all crows are black, you mustn't seek to show that no crows are; it is enough if you prove one single crow to be white." - William James ~~~~~ Once again the big picture of that statement and IMHO refers to the Rebis, which isn't the concept of the Rebis 'upsetting the 'natural law' of things?
White crow, black crow. They're different but they are same.
The Star of David is also the alchemical conjoining of opposites as is the Vesia Pisces.
The Rebis is the Great Work of Alchemy, The Philosopher's Stone. Your recent post was about a woman of stone.
And speaking of owls, cremation of care, birds, fire, the number 40, water and trees, black and white, red and white, Oh My!! Check this out, copy and paste: asterisks mine "The Cremation of Care is an annual ritual production written, produced, and performed by and for members of the Bohemian Club. Looking at the photo wherein "Water from my Heart" is displayed, you can see a book on the shelf to the right by one Kurt Schlichter. Turns out, the book-- "People's Republic"-- is a dystopian novel set in the ex-U.S., after it has split into "blue" (progressive) and "red" (conservative) components, as the book's cover shows.
Note that the cover features four colors: black, white, red, blue. It is "a Kelly Turnbull novel", thus having a link to the "Kelly-Strawberry family". (Bill rendered an analysis of the name "Kelly" in his comment on that post.) I leave it to my fellow readers to discern the red/white patterns that appear, as well as the way in which the red and blue areas of the now-divorced U.S. subtly suggest the colored rays of the Divine Mercy image of Jesus, and the image of the skeletal man/hart-hybrid. There is a black dog that is prominently visible against the backdrop of red Texas and Oklahoma. Ms. Berg's book said that, not only a white hart, but a black dog, signifies the opening of a portal to another world.
The cover of "People's Republic" presents an interesting comparison with the cover of the "Meditations". They both feature deep black backgrounds. In fact, one must ask the question, "Why feature a red crow instead of a black?" Is the answer not, that they were committed especially to a black background, so the crow had to be a different color? Furthermore, this black background forms a connection to Vermeer's "Girl with the Pearl Earring"-- it too features a "Caravaggesque" deep black background. Each of these black backgrounds strikes me as abyssal. It is the pictorial representation of Poe's raven's "Nevermore". I suppose one could say that Poe's "The Raven" and Marcus' "Meditations" are conjoined by a stoic resolve in the face of harsh realities, and one could almost interpret Vermeer's "Girl..." to be "The Raven's" Lenore, in process of her departure unto the abyss.
Nephi's vision does include him seeing Jesus descending out of heaven after he sees the tree (and learns the interpretation of it). Twice, actually, if you count his initial condescension ("Look and behold the condescension of God!", which was spoken by the angel immediately after Nephi understood what the tree meant) and him seeing Jesus descend from Heaven to visit his descendants at Bountiful.
"I saw the heavens open, and the Lamb of God descending out of heaven; and he came down and showed himself unto them."
I spent part of yesterday doing Guild Wars 2 stuff, hitting syncs before I'd even opened the game. Scrolling through one GW2 Discord server I'm in, I found a screenshot of someone's character dressed in a patriotic American fashion, including recolouring a raven head to look like that of a bald eagle. I later learnt the pair of wings was released for "Pride" month last year, so their being primarily recoloured red is amusing. files.catbox.moe/z3z9ps.png wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Raven-Blessed_Visage_(light_skin) wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Vibrant_Wings_Backpack_Skin
Along with the Discord jaunt, I ran a search for GW2 character builds to get an idea of how much things had changed over the past few years. I'd completely forgotten that one popular site is called SnowCrows.
After logging into the game, I chose to work on one of my less-used characters, a Sylvari (plant-person) ranger. This is relevant for two reasons. First, the Sylvari lore has both Arthurian and Celtic influences, and as part of character creation the player can decide whether his/her Sylvari dreamt of questing for a white stag, a green knight, or a shield emblazoned with a crescent moon. Guess which one I'd picked in this instance, however many years ago. files.catbox.moe/tx2bts.png
Second, as typical for RPGs, each GW2 class has its own special mechanic; rangers can have pets fighting alongside them. During my play session, I got my Sylvari ranger to the max level, allowing me to unlock elite classes that (among other things) modify the pet mechanic. I'm only familiar with the oldest elite (called the druid, funnily enough) so figured I ought to try its successor, the soulbeast. Looking over its skillset, I remembered the lore behind the name: soulbeasts can "merge" with their pet. (Also, in looking for the raven head's wiki page, I rediscovered there are both black and white raven pets, as well as a snowy owl. Alas, the only deer-like pet is an interesting gazelle.) wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Soulbeast wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Juvenile_Rock_Gazelle
Technically true, Bill, but he sees so many other things in between the Tree and the descent at Bountiful that it seems unlikely to be what the Spirit meant. And seeing the Virgin with a baby in her arms isn't the same as seeing a man descending out of heaven, even if an angel.does explain that it's a "condescension."
William, Yet another interesting odd experience having to do with chanting, and using sound to ' lift' and movement ( levitation), happened to me yesterday.
Back story: Recall I shared many times my 2011 Fama Fraternitatis dream. At one point in the dream I was levitating in the lobby of a beautiful theater ( with beautiful red velvet seats) surrounded by a group of people ( all White ) in a circle. I felt as if the people had been looking for me for a very long time.
When I asked the people who they were they gave me a piece of paper. On the top of the paper was a letterhead of an illustration of two lions and in-between the lion illustration a long word beginning with the letter F. I then said to this group of people: You guys are from Germany!!??.
At that point is when I began to levitate up to the ceiling. As I was hovering there the group of people laid down on their backs on the floor looking up and began chanting. They were holding hands. I then descended back down to the floor and they all got up and ran down the basement in the lobby. I woke up.
When I woke up I had NO CLUE what the long word starting with F was. I googled Germany, and long word starting with F, and lo and behold I found the Fama Fraternitatis wiki page.
Last night June 21 Summer Solstice, a couple of videos appeared on my youtube feed. The thumbnails were very interesting indeed. One was titled : Maasai Jumping dance - MAASAI Dance - Vertical jumps.
I've never heard of the Maasai tribe before or the throat singing or the dancing ( see the two Maasi videos below )
While watching and listening to the video I noticed the tribe rocking back and forth and throat singing and several began to dance jumping straight up. I thought that was interesting as in more recent years of my levitation dreams (I'll say starting about 2010 or so ) ...for some reason I couldn't levitate effortlessly like I had before in levitation dreams.
I had many levitation dreams from 2010 on where I could barely make it up off the ground, much like the Maasai dances. ( see link ) I do remember that the reason why I wasn't able to levitate was because I could not push myself up with my feet , where the levitation dreams before 2010 I didn't use my feet at all as the 'flight' was more like a gliding upwards.
Also in the video the throat singing intrigued me as it sounded very similar to the chanting Germans in the Fama dream who laid on the floor while I was levitating.
This new find about the Maasai and throat singing sounds very similar, at least to me, like the buzzing of a bee.
And even more odd is yet another video appeared on my youtube feed about the Tibetan Monks chants and that one REALLY got my attention!! I had my headphones on and at one point I felt my body rocking without me making an effort to do so. It was very very odd.( see Tibetan chant vid below ) Do note: I've never seen these videos before.
Another 'deep throat' chanting sounds somewhat ( but NOT the same) like the Wicked Witches' guards in The Wizard of Oz ( see video ).
