I don't know whether this hunch is based on astronomical dating or numerology or a countdown-feeling.
Astronomically, August 1 is approx. Lammas; which is a cross-quarter day - circa halfway between summer solstice and autumn equinox. Thus, a day with significance in many religious societies - including historical Christianity.
