This led me to look up the poem and reread it. One stanza caught my attention:

The phrase swallow hen just seemed strange to me. I know hen can refer to any adult female bird, but hen swallow seems more natural -- just as you would say dog fox or bull elephant, with the animal's actual species as the syntactic head.
Later in the day, I put on some music, and "The Man Comes Around" by Johnny Cash came on. It also includes an odd compound with hen, and in the context of fetching someone home.

Johnny Cash was a Pisces. His first wife Vivian
was a Rebis (Multi- racial). It was probably because
of Vivian being multi- racial why they divorced so
as to not hinder Johnny Cash's rising fame( see link )
According to the Johnny Cash bio movie Walk the Line,
Johnny Cash was also a believer in the paranormal
because of his life long dreams about his brother's
tragic death.
Cash, being a First Decan Pisces, that doesn't surprise me

Regarding the whistle connection.
"But aye her whistle would fetch him back."
A whistle is symbolic of being without fear.
When we are in fear of something, we are
in a state of panic which causes chaos or
paralysis. Being uncertain or not understanding
something causes fear.

in Wisconsin.
Another whistle song is the 1988 song by Bobby
McFerrin titled Don't Worry, Be Happy.
Note McFerrin's bare feet in the video.
To be barefoot is not only symbolic of slaves but
also symbolic of the sign of Pisces the fish,
who serve or sacrifice for humanity.
In my 1974 past life reading the reader
asked me to take off one shoe and show
him the bottom of my foot.
The sole of the foot is where the soul
escapes.

I always respected Cash for daring to sing "Well, I know what's right / I got just one wife," but it turns out I'd misheard him. The word was actually "life." Of course he's just another degenerate who had to assign ordinal numbers to his "wives." Let me guess, he had a "drug problem," too. And he was a "philanthropist," with a strong affinity for a certain Middle Eastern country.
I haven't even looked any of that up, but it's obviously got to be true. He's that character. Why can't any of these creative types stop repeating this same hackneyed storyline?

As I've commented many times before, everything on this planet
has a dual nature and that most certainly applies to 'creative types'.
I'd bet the farm that Cash's affinity for 'a certain Middle Eastern country'
was sparked by June Carter Cash whom he left his wife Vivian
for.
In order to survive and thrive successfully in this duality
dimension, especially in the music industry means having
to abide to whatever your overlords dictate.
No matter the assignment. No matter the ' industry'.
